28 Nov 2023: BICC results
The Borders Individual championships started two weeks ago, and again there are two sections: the Championship with 6 players, and the Minor with 8 players. Two results from the Championship are available:
- Alan Armstrong lost to Dave Bogle. Alan got a strong position from the opening, but a blundered rook ended the game immediately
- Gerry Johnstone and Ian Whittaker drew their game
Three results from the Minor section
- John Moore defeated Logan Symons after a tough battle in a French Defence
- Keith Robinson won against Kevin Poulton. This was a tense and dynamic game with persistent chances for both sides, which ended with a slip-up from Kevin
- Ally MacGillvray won against Sam Cornwell
Next week the 6th of December, Selkirk are at home to Kelso. 7pm Tuesday.

14 Nov 2023: Selkirk fall to impressive Gala
A strong Gala team of Martin Wallace, Gordon Christie, Gerry Johnstone and Ally Gray inflicted a 3½-½ defeat on Selkirk in the Town Arms on Tuesday 14th. Selkirk's sole half-point came from the Board 1 clash where Dave Bogle held Border Champion Martin Wallace to a draw. Board 2 might easily have seen an upset, where John Moore - facing a 293 point grading deficit - played excellently to reach a good position against Gordon Christie. Unfortunately for the Selkirk captain a slight lapse in concentration allowed a snap combination by Gordon, which brought about a sudden end to the game.
On boards 3 and 4, Gerry Johnstone and Ally Gray completed the job for Gala. ½-3½

01 Nov 2023: Solid start to season: 2-2 at BGH
On Wednesday a team travelled to the BGH to take on the NHS, who this year have been strengthened by the addition of Ian Thompson to their team. On board 2, John Moore and Ian Thompson agreed a draw, while board 3 saw Bill Miller overcoming Steve Litster. On board 4 Kevin Poulton had a winning position against Logan Symons, but a desperately unlucky fingerfehler caused him to lose his Queen and the game. Last to finish was a 66-move battle on Board 1 between Dave Bogle and Stasys Gimbutis, where Dave was a pawn down (or indeed 2 pawns down) for most of the game. But determined defence saved the draw for Dave, leaving the teams tied at 2-2.
