06 May:  Gala 2½-1½ Selkirk B;   John Moore wins BICC Minor

06 May 2025: Good play by Gala

Recovering quickly from last week's defeat against Kelso, Gala travelled to the Town Arms to play their "home" match against Selkirk B, and came away winners by 2½-1½.  On Board 1 Martin Wallace gradually squeezed John Moore's position until the loss of a third pawn was enough to force John's resignation.  On the other boards: Gerry Johnstone and Geoff Hope played a long and hard draw; Sam Cornwell defeated Rob Crosbie with a kingside attack;  and on board 4 Ally Gray took advantage of a slip by Tam Wylie.  2½-1½ to Gala.   Details, updated league tables, and the Moore-Wallace and Cornwell-Crosbie games on the League Matches page...

22 Apr 2025: Final game in BICC Minor playoff

John Moore has won the BICC Minor title by beating Mark Gardiner and drawing with Alan Armstrong in the playoff. With Mark beating Alan on Tuesday night this meant that John was the winner with 1½/2. Full details on the BICC Matches page...
