22 Oct 2024: Borders League AGM

Prizewinners
The Borders League AGM was held in Selkirk's Town Arms, and was a well-attended event, with almost 20 people at the meeting. The evening also included the presentation of prizes and trophies for last season, and the photos are (from left to right):
- Borders Individual Championship: Martin Wallace accepts the shield from League Chairman Logan Symons
- Borders Individual (Minor section): Selkirk's John Moore with the shield
- League Championship: Gala Captain Martin Wallace accepts the prize on behalf of Gala Chess Club
- Nick Duffell shield for the most improved player, awarded to Gala's Alistair Gray. Alistair's grading has jumped by no less than 97 points this season
Discussion at the AGM
The meeting went very well: the League is healthy, both financially and as regards availability of players, and no major problems are foreseen for the 2024-25 season. The main points were:
- The League will be run as before, except that Selkirk will be
entering two teams this season. This will bring the number of
teams in the League to five.
- The revised fixture list has now been distributed by the League Secretary, and is also available on the Matches page... of this website
- It is planned to have a quickplay tournament (10 minutes: no increment) some time in the Christmas / New Year break. A venue is still to be decided.
- There may also be the possibility of a simultaneous display later on in the season
